I was hoping for something useful when I purchased this ebook. What I found was more of a report than a book. It was not translated to the ebook format very well at all read horribly. It that were the only problem it wouldn’t be a total loss. I discovered that just because the Kindle version has a date of 2010 it only means this is the date the book became available for the Kindle. After receiving this “report” I discovered that most if not all of the information included was out of date. The copyright date on this item is listed as 2006. This information should be made available to those who are interested in buying the product. Also, each of the “plug-ins” listed are, I’m guessing, set up to be links. Unfortunately none of these work either. Even though the cost of the item is very low this item should be taken off the shelves of Amazon because it is useless. This is the most disappointing purchase I have ever made at Amazon.
Was this review helpful to you??
I am hoping that the author will take note of this review and resolve the problems I mention.
First, the good – the price was certainly not an issue. $3.98 is not going to break anybody’s piggy bank. That said, …
The first problem is that the sample is limited to the title page and the table of contents. Giving away just one or two of the 118 plug-ins would allow the reader to gauge the quality of the material for the other 116 plug-ins. If the quality of the content is not there, I’m just not interested in cluttering up my kindle no matter how cheap it is.
The second problem is the formatting. In my short experience, there is a wide range of quality based on the care taken in converting the source material to the MOBI format. The best stuff reads just as smoothly as words on a printed page. The next step down shows the problems with the change in line breaks – i.e. two words with no space between them (probably the last word of one line and the first word of the next in the paper version) and hyphenated words in the middle of a line of text. The next step beyond that includes diagrams that either will not render or render in zoomed landscape mode with print so tiny that you need a magnifying glass to read it. Finally, there is the bottom tier where the content is a jumbled mess and almost impossible to read.
The table of contents for this book falls squarely in this last category.
If an author or publisher doesn’t care enough to make sure that the sample doesn’t read well, what does that say about the content?
The content might be excellent, but I have a difficult time trusting the word of anyone who can’t be bothered to have his work looked at before publishing it. No excuse that the author is not a native speaker of English. Can’t bother to get an editor to look at it first? Then don’t expect to get paid for your work. Sloppy. On the Kindle this was so hard to extract information from that I’m sorry I downloaded it.
